MEd in Education
BSJ from the Medill School of Journalism
Cara approaches her students with the firm belief that they can improve their writing — this isn’t an innate talent, but a skill that can be developed through concrete feedback, encouragement, and step-by-step support. She has taught middle school English/Language Arts in several Massachusetts public and private schools in addition to upper elementary reading and 8th grade special education courses.
Outside of the classroom, Cara privately tutors high school and adult students in grammar and writing, as well as in test preparation for the SAT verbal sections and for the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure. She helps students understand and articulate their intent in each piece of writing and then find the best way to express themselves through elements such as structure, word choice, clarity, and concision.
While completing a degree in magazine writing, Cara began to write and edit for Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy communication department, including their alumni magazine and publicity materials. She has written for several local newspapers and for trade magazines, including Bio-IT World, and has worked as a freelance writer creating web content and ad copy.
Cara tutors students in academic writing, professional writing, and admission essays. Her rate is $150 per hour.
